Something a bit different

No i'm afraid its not the usual quick draw challenge today, sorry about that. Instead i've decided to post about a new piece of work for the children's story collaboration.
Its been a while since I did a new illustration for the project so I spent some of last week working on one. Unfortunately due to time my blog posts have become less frequent as i've had to take time away from this to do other work, mainly working towards my long term goal of becoming a published (one day) children's illustrator.
I may have to give up the quick draw posts altogether ...*gasp*. Not something I want to do as I very much enjoy them but time at the moment is very limited particularly with the wedding and recently acquiring some long term freelance illustration work with a Canadian based business - oooo get me i've gone global!! Haha.
So no draw today but instead heres a pretty picture. This is an illustration of the story's title character 'Dizzy Dandy' and his side-kick Mr Timpkins, getting ready for action:

Hope it makes up a little for the lack of quick draw. Right, back to the grind!

Quick draw challenge

Feeling a bit sorry for myself today. Got a nasty cold which made its way to my chest and over the weekend I lost my voice, so i'm literally speechless at the moment :(
The other half is probably jumping for joy as we speak ha ha.

Anyway despite the coughing, spluttering and sneezing, like a trooper i'm still checking in with today's quick draw. Right for those of you who don't already know this is how it all works:

Every Tuesday (or most at least) I host a teeny weeny drawing challenge on here at 10am-ish. I post a thingy to draw, selected by a 'random word generator' and there are 3 rules to be followed before drawing can start:

1. Drawings must be done without any external visual reference, so from mental reference only.
2. Drawing has a time limit of five minutes.
3. The drawing must be in ink from the off. So no drawing in pencil and then tracing over the line.

I'll then draw the thingy and if any of you keen doodler drawers would like to enter you can send me a photo or scan of your drawing as a JPEG image either by email to lucyfarfort@yahoo.com or comment on the post with a link to your drawing that I can download from the internet. Or if you wish you can tweet me a link to the pic on Twitter which is what most do.
I'll post all the submissions at the end of the day for the world to see, normally around 5-6pm (UK time). No prizes, its just for fun.

Today's randomly selected thingy is 'ANIMAL'
Happy drawing!

Quick draw and website news

Is it that time already? Apparently so. The weeks are rushing by, the big wedding day is hurtling towards me & the other 1/2 at an alarming rate. Yikes and theres still a load to do! I've got to design & make the table decorations, finish the bunting, make flags, create the signs and lots more. However i've somehow still managed to find time to update the dusty old website which often gets neglected.

After wrestling with some tantrum throwing html code, the site is now looking a bit more polished, with a new animated banner, a brand spanking new portfolio page with my new illustrations and a new about page. I would love it if you'd hope over and take a look http://www.lucyshappyplace.com/

Now for the quick draw and the obligatory recap -

A Christening gift

This week as well as working on updating my website which i'm pleased to say should be finished by the end of today, I have also been working on a new illustration commissioned by a lovely lady as a gift for her godson's Christening. Actually for once i've had a very productive week, perhaps it was down to the much needed break over the long weekend, but as well as doing all the other usual worky stuff I also managed to write my wedding vows and better still i'm dead pleased with them. Whoop!!

Anyway back to the matter at hand - the illustration :)
Helen, the lady who came to me with the idea, already had a rough vision of what she wanted; something which incorporated Dr Seuss's words 'Oh the places you'll go' with the boy holding onto a balloon and floating over the world. She told me that her husband and her liked to see the world and travel so this was to make a very personal gift from them  - what a lovely idea!
Together we came up with a final plan and this is the finished piece:

I really enjoyed doing this piece of work and love how its turned out. Plus I also discovered a new Photoshop tool in the process - bonus. It will be a great addition to my new website portfolio.
Well thats all folks. Hopefully either over the weekend or next week i'll get a chance to post about my new look site.
Cheerio!

Quick draw results

Just me today but hey I can hardly complain given my slacking off last week.
So here is today's challenge result:

I was going to draw a saxophone till I realised I couldn't really remember well enough what a sax looked like off hand so went for the easy option.

I guess thats it for this week then. Hopefully by Friday i would have finished the illustration i'm working on so i'll be able to share it with you...byeeeeeeee!!

Quick draw and more

Oh dear I must first apologise for my lack of blogging last week. Unfortunately I wasn't at home to do the quick draw last Tuesday as I had to work in the office that day and then was away for the weekend from Friday morning so didn't get a chance to do a Friday post either.
Also i've been busy beavering away at my website which is in dire need of a revamp and working on a new commission for someone. Plus the wedding is only 8 weeks away now so i'm having to get my skates on with making table decorations and such like.
Wowser thats a lot of excuses, but I think you understand now why i've not been around on the blog.

So i'm trying to get back to blogging normality this week. First off I want to show you a little sneaky glimpse at the new portfolio page on my website. Its not linked up yet to the rest of the website so you'll only be able to get there via this link if you fancy a little looky.

Okay now back to the serious business at hand - 'the quick draw challenge' and in case you're unaware how it heres a recap -

The object to draw today is INSTRUMENT
Which leaves a lot of room for interpretation, so if you're able to enter - have fun!
Sees you later with the results.
